Second Again!

May 15th, 2008

Once again, QUT has been foiled at the last minute, losing the gold medal match at the annual Flaming Chalice tournament.

This time, it was the visitors from PNG who took the final game despite QUT beating them the previous day to progress straight through to the finals.

So well done to PNG, and hopefully we’ll get that gold medal next year.

Flaming Chalice

April 30th, 2008

The Dragons’ Flaming Chalice competition is on again this weekend and QUT Men have managed to scrape together a team.

Because of the limited availability of many of our players, it’s going to be a hard slog to get a good result this year.  We only have a few people available to us on Saturday afternoon and evening and that’s when all the preliminary games are.

Version 1.0 of the draw is on the Dragons website, but the commitments for QUT are as follows:

Time Commitment Court GameNo Opponent
Sat 3:30pm Game 2 220 Dragons Red
Sat 5:50pm Game 2 222 The Barbarians
Sat 7:00pm Duty 2 223
Sat 8:10pm Game 1 124 Titans

Note that there will be crossover games on Sunday somewhere between 1pm and 7pm, and also on Monday between 8:30am and 2:30pm.  The times will depend completely on how we do on Saturday.

Keep an eye on the website to see how we’re doing!

The man-off round 2!

September 6th, 2007

Round 2 was held at the QUT Volleyball AFL day last weekend - much fun was had by all and so on…

But the important part was this (big thanks to Rags for the video):

So the score stands at Shanas 2 : Jizzle 0

Looks like there’s some catching up to do Jiz!!

The man-off

August 20th, 2007

So you may have heard about the man-off between Shanas and Jizzle (Dave and Luke), but just in case you haven’t, I’ll give you as much information as I know:

From now until Uni Games, Shanas and Jizzle will be competing against each other in a series of testosterone-fuelled contests. They can be as simple or as complex as they decide, but the overriding premise is that the better man wins.

The first of these challenges was performed on the 12th of September before going out. It was a basic challenge - who could drink a beer the fastest. Here are the results:

So the running score is Shanas 1 : Jizzle 0

Also, make sure you put your vote in with the poll on the right!

Flaming Chalice

May 1st, 2007

So by this stage, I’m sure you’re all aware that we’re entering a Men’s team in the Flaming Chalice tournament to be held this coming weekend (4th May).

The Draw Commitments for our team (QUT Rats) is as follows. If you’re in the team, please ensure that you can be present for EVERY ONE of these commitments. In addition, keep an eye on the finals draw because if things go to plan, there’ll definitely be a few more games after the pool matches.

Time Commitment Court GameNo Opponent
Fri 7:00pm Game 2 211 Marauders Qld 19
Fri 8:10pm Duty 2 212
Fri 9:20pm Game 2 213 Dragons White
Sat 7:00pm Game 2 223 Qld U21
Sun 9:40am Game 3 327 Dragons Red
Sun 10:50am Duty 3 328

You might also be aware that the PNG National team is coming across for the tournament. They’re not in our pool, but we might see them in crossovers or finals (or however they’ve done the draw - I’m too lazy to check).

I’ll get hold of the QUT Sport people to see if they want to come and support. It was greatly welcome last year!

Tournaments

March 7th, 2007

Hi all,

Well the two tournaments we’re running are coming up fast.

The first, on March 25th will see the First VI teams from the AIC and GPS school competitions go head to head at Gregory Terrace.  QUT Volleyball will need bodies at the venue to man the canteen, referee, and generally run the show.  It seems that most of the invited schools are aching to meet each other on the court, so this should be a big tournament.

The second tournament is on the following weekend, on March 31st.  QUT will be expected to put some teams in, so we’ll need even more people to play.  We’ve got a few extra volunteers, and a few extra players, but the more help we can get the better. Due to a late cancellation, the venue for this tournament has been changed to Marist College Ashgrove.  There are three courts available there, which should mean extra games for all teams.

QUT (through Package) is arranging some inaugrual trophies so we can make this an annual event and bring a bit of prestige to it.

See you all there!
