Our Themes

September 17th, 2007

Hi all,

You might have heard that we’re changing the themes for Uni Games a bit. We’re not going against the official themes for each night, but we’re twisting them a bit to make them more interesting. Have a look and start buying stuff.

Day AUG Theme QUT Volleyball Theme
Sunday Team Colours Team Colours - Too Far
Wear team colours, and nothing but - so much team colour it’s sickly. I’m talking face-paint, tights, scarves, ribbons, you name it.
Monday Beach Party Beach Bitches
Dress up as beach bitch (didn’t really need to explain that one).
Tuesday White White Trash
Dress up as redneck as you can get.
Wednesday Heros Make your own Superhero
Your own superhero - none of this Batman/Superman crap - something unique!
Thursday Tight and Bright Tight and Bright
How could we possibly improve that theme!?

The man-off round 2!

September 6th, 2007

Round 2 was held at the QUT Volleyball AFL day last weekend - much fun was had by all and so on…

But the important part was this (big thanks to Rags for the video):

So the score stands at Shanas 2 : Jizzle 0

Looks like there’s some catching up to do Jiz!!

The man-off

August 20th, 2007

So you may have heard about the man-off between Shanas and Jizzle (Dave and Luke), but just in case you haven’t, I’ll give you as much information as I know:

From now until Uni Games, Shanas and Jizzle will be competing against each other in a series of testosterone-fuelled contests. They can be as simple or as complex as they decide, but the overriding premise is that the better man wins.

The first of these challenges was performed on the 12th of September before going out. It was a basic challenge - who could drink a beer the fastest. Here are the results:

So the running score is Shanas 1 : Jizzle 0

Also, make sure you put your vote in with the poll on the right!

Common Poeple only $5 … its so cheap and would really help us out to pay for our togs … AND NO we cant Play without them!!

Please foward this on to all your players and any one else who likes to drink!! just get the word out!!

Like Shanas said just recently, it’d be great if we could all support the other teams.  We’re all in the same boat when it comes to paying for these trips, and more importantly, they’ll do the same for us if we do!

Beach Volleyball on the Coast

July 6th, 2007

Yet again, our volleyballers have triumphed over the forces of evil.  Well the forces of other universities anyway.

At the recent University Games Gold Coast Challenge, our men took out the gold and the silver, and our women took out first through fourth!  Congratulations to all our players.  You did yourselves proud on and off the sand.
QUT Volleyball will be back again later in the year to dominate on the court at the Australian University Games.

Flaming Chalice

May 1st, 2007

So by this stage, I’m sure you’re all aware that we’re entering a Men’s team in the Flaming Chalice tournament to be held this coming weekend (4th May).

The Draw Commitments for our team (QUT Rats) is as follows. If you’re in the team, please ensure that you can be present for EVERY ONE of these commitments. In addition, keep an eye on the finals draw because if things go to plan, there’ll definitely be a few more games after the pool matches.

Time Commitment Court GameNo Opponent
Fri 7:00pm Game 2 211 Marauders Qld 19
Fri 8:10pm Duty 2 212
Fri 9:20pm Game 2 213 Dragons White
Sat 7:00pm Game 2 223 Qld U21
Sun 9:40am Game 3 327 Dragons Red
Sun 10:50am Duty 3 328

You might also be aware that the PNG National team is coming across for the tournament. They’re not in our pool, but we might see them in crossovers or finals (or however they’ve done the draw - I’m too lazy to check).

I’ll get hold of the QUT Sport people to see if they want to come and support. It was greatly welcome last year!

Aussie Domination!!

April 18th, 2007

Hey all,

QUT Volleyball returns victorious from across the sea!

Our tour was nothing short of a domination as we dropped only a single set in our games against the Kiwis. While some of the games were tight (particularly the last few), our consistency and attack could not be beaten.

On the final day, our final against Otago University was moved forward so that an exhibition match could take place. Once we had completed our win against Otago, the tournament directors selected a “Tournament Team” consisting of the best players from each of the New Zealand universities. QUT was pitted against this “super-team” and triumphed 3-0.

There’s undoubtedly some interesting stories that will have come from this tour but I’ll leave that to you guys to post. Just reply to this email with your memories! And to save Macca some typing (again): “Rookie, should have said the same, choice eh bro, funny money, matt damon”.

So a big congratulations to all the guys who travelled with us and took the court in the name of our fine university. A big thanks must also go out to those who supported us. Obviously we’d like to thank our sponsors who helped cover our costs and kitted us out with probably the best jerseys I’ve seen on a volleyball court anywhere ever. Also thanks to those touch and squash players who came and supported us during our games. Last but not least, a big thanks to Package, the man with the slapper bus who was happy to drop what he was doing and come and pick us up, no matter where we were whether it be the courts, the hospital, or the beach that would have led to hospital.

Good work, thanks to everyone, and bring on the AUS three-peat!

More Info about the Games

April 2nd, 2007

Hey all,

I thought I’d give you a bit more info about what’s going on with the actual volleyball in New Zealand.

  • There are six teams in the Mens indoor competition (including us).  The others are:
    • AUT University
    • Canterbury University
    • Otago University (winners the last two years)
    • Victoria University (two teams)
  • Last year there were 7 teams and each team only seemed to play about 4 games over the two days.  The days this year run later than last year, so hopefully there’ll be a bit more game time this year.
  • I’m waiting on information about whether we are allowed to take gold, and whether our players can be selected in the “Tournament Team” (like our merit team).  I’m also waiting on info about the libero rule in NZ and the sub rule (although I assume it’s 6 per set).
  • There are 17 teams in the Mens beach competition (including our 4).  You don’t really care who the others are so I won’t tell you.  There are also 17 in the Womens beach competition including our one team.

Sponsor thanks

March 28th, 2007

Hey everyone,

This is just a quick message to acknowledge our sponsors for the New Zealand Uni Games tour. You can find them in our Sponsors page.

With their help, we’ve managed to arrange an entire playing kit for this tour including new playing shirts and shorts. Our sponsors feature prominently on this gear and I’m sure we’ll get noticed on court for the uniforms as well as our amazing volleyball ability (except for Rags who will only get noticed for his chiselled body).

So a big thanks to our sponsors. Thanks to you guys, this trip looks like being a whole new level of awesome.
